It's probably a safe assumption that if a project to design a new operating system involved an experienced security researcher that the goal would be an OS which is darn near bulletproof. That's exactly what Joanna Rutkowska is gunning for with Qubes, which she's pegged for release later this year.
Qubes is a bit different from the desktop OSes most of us are familiar with, though it looks similar. It's built on Fedora and Xen and aims to deliver a more secure desktop through the use of sandboxing and 'App VMs.' Each VM is isolated, though you're still able to do pass data between them (via secure copy and paste).

Process Explorer, which is arguably one of the most frequently used Sysinternals tools, has been updated to version 12. The latest version includes a number of new features that allow server administrators to see what program, service, or system process is interacting with a file. According to this TechNet blog, the update also includes a number of other minor improvements and bug fixes.
The significant new features for the popular diagnostic tool include the following:
Process Explorer has a lot of tabs and views, so it may take you a while to find the new features. Figure A shows the new feature that displays the TCP/IP information of a given process.

Figure B shows an example of the new feature that will display a Windows service name to a running thread. This feature detects if a thread has been started by a service.

In Figure B, the two processes on the left (vpxd and JettyService) were originated from a Windows service and have the Service tab visible. On the right, the user process (Firefox Web browser) does not have a Service tab.

Rubbing Vaseline on scratched CDs to make them readable again is a new one to me, but Instructables has a DIY project up claiming it works perfectly. Mind you, they also say peanut butter works a charm too.
Using a piece of cloth, the Vaseline can be slicked onto the scratched CD, and then rubbed off with some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball, leaving the Vaseline in the scratches, filling them in. It won't remove the scratches completely—that would be a miracle—but it sounds like it does a nice job of filling them in to make the disc work again. [Instructables via Lifehacker]"
